ISLAMABAD: The PML-N on Thursday slammed PTI founder Imran Khan for equating the country’s situation with the 1971 East Pakistan crisis.

The PML-N’s Parliamentary Leader in Senate, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, while talking to reporters said that portrayal of the country’s current situation by the jailed former prime minister as akin to the 1971 East Pakistan crisis was deplorable.

Mr Siddiqui expressed concern over the ‘controversial’ message posted from Mr Khan’s verified official X account, which he said, gave a misleading impression that Pakistan was heading towards another fall of Dhaka-like situation.

“Such claims are alarming, unacceptable and deplorable,” the PML-N senator said. He said that Mr Khan’s post was not merely a tweet, but a “meticulously scripted short film with a clear anti-army agenda”.

He said Mr Khan’s tweet echoed a “hostile mentality” against military personnel.

The PML-N leader said that Mr Khan’s rhetoric might be setting a stage for another May 9 like incident.

“Those who are making hollow and empty arguments to justify the pictorial tweet must tell the people how they will cover the press talk of PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub… who just after meeting Imran Khan in jail, reiterated the same thoughts as conveyed in Mr Khan’s contentious tweet,” Mr Siddiqui said.

He said the PTI founder’s likening himself to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was highly condemnable.
