PESHAWAR: Ten militants were killed in two separate operations by security forces in North Waziristan district, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said four militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation on Friday.

During the follow-up sanitisation operation, four more militants were neutralised by the security forces.

Separately, two militants were killed while trying to infiltrate from Afghanistan through the border in North Waziristan.

ISPR claimed that the movement of five militants was intercepted by the security forces, leading to an intense exchange of fire.

The deceased militants have been identified as Hazrat Umer and Rehman Niaz, while three other militants were injured.

The statement added that Pakistan has repeatedly asked the interim Afghan government to “ensure effective border management” on their side.

“The interim Afghan government is expected to fulfil its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for perpetrating acts of terrorism against Pakistan,” the statement said.

“Security forces of Pakistan are determined and remain committed to secure its borders and wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” it said.
