LAHORE: With elections less than two weeks away, Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif unveiled the party’s manifesto on Saturday and vowed to “fully implement” it if voted into power.
The PML-N manifesto was revealed at a gathering of the party in its stronghold of Lahore, the former premier termed the country’s economy the most important aspect of PML-N’s manifesto. “It is painful to be expelled from the government, the mistakes must be known,” said Nawaz. “I do not want to go into the discussion of how RTS was closed, but if it had not been closed, we would have had a government at the Centre like in Punjab,” said the former PM.
The PML-N supremo said he hoped people would read the party’s manifesto. “If I was there in the previous government instead of the person who you saw, I would have never done what he did,” said Nawaz in reference to former premier Imran Khan.
“The people of KP are easily fooled, as they voted for Imran Khan,” said Nawaz.
Nawaz vowed that if voted into power for the fourth time, the PML-N government would reduce power bills by 20 to 30 percent and provide “cheap and increased electricity” and increased development in the country.
The manifesto also promises a massive job creation programme and easy-to-secure loans for establishing businesses.
The party also plans to restore student unions in an attempt to win the youth’s favour, allocate funds for IT start-ups and expand the National Youth Scheme. Continuing PML-N’s approach to foreign policy matters, the manifesto promised to send a “message of peace” to other countries including India that it reverses the August 2019 action in occupied Kashmir. For overseas Pakistanis, the party manifesto says that they will “rebuild Pakistan together” and promised the people to “bring Constitutional, legal, judicial and administrative reforms”. The party also promised reforms in the education sector in its manifesto, “rebuild tourism” and bring reforms to sports including the establishment of new stadiums and sports academies. The manifesto also touched upon modernising agriculture practices, empowering women, introducing new labour policies and action against violence directed towards the country’s minorities.
