ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has written a letter to the Ministry of Interior for the deployment of military personnel in the general elections. The ECP has asked the Ministry of Interior for a comprehensive report on security in the upcoming general elections by November 27.

According to sources, the letter said that due to a shortage of police personnel, it has been decided to deploy the Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies in the elections. It sought a report on the availability of security personnel for the four provinces and Islamabad.

In the letter, the ministry has also been instructed to inform the ECP in writing about the shortage of personnel in the provinces. According to ECP officials, the commission is taking all constitutional and legal measures for fair and transparent elections. It is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in all constituencies, they added.
