ISLAMABAD: “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, categorically condemns the cowardly terrorist attack in Gwadar, leading to the martyrdom of two Pakistani security forces,” said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Thwarting such violent attacks, which are destined to prevent the Sustainable Development of the region, disturb Sustainable Development Objectives and to destroy the infrastructures, by the Pakistan Army is appreciable,” said a post on X.

This response came amid yesterday’s incident involving seven armed assailants who were shot dead by police and security forces on Wednesday after they forcibly entered the Gwadar Port Authority Complex and opened firing, according to officials.

Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani told that multiple blasts were also reported in the attack, adding that the clearance operation against the perpetrators was being carried out.

Gwadar Senior Superintendent of Police Captain (retd) Zohaib Mohsin initially told that eight armed assailants were gunned down but later revised the count to seven. Regarding the status of the assault, he said that the firing had “completely stopped”.

A large contingent of police and security forces had reached the scene when the intense firing was ongoing, Umrani earlier told.

No casualties have been reported so far.

A statement from the United Nations Department for Safety and Security said “several explosions followed by continuous firing” were reported during the attack on the complex, adding that the facility hosts several government and paramilitary offices.

The statement added there were no immediate reports of casualties, elaborating that seven personnel from three UN agencies based in Gwadar and two UN agencies on missions were “safe and accounted for”.

The Majeed Brigade of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
