BEIJING: China will continue to play a constructive role in ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and re-establishing peace as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Saturday.

Even if there is only a glimmer of hope for peace, China will not give up its efforts, the Chinese top diplomat stressed.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Kuleba on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany held from February 16 to 18.

Wang elaborated on China’s position on the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing that China adheres to the political settlement of hotspot issues, persists in promoting peace talks. China does not fuel the flame or profit from the situation, nor does it sell lethal weapons to the conflict areas or parties of the conflict, he added.

Noting China and Ukraine have been strategic partners for many years and people of the two countries have a traditional friendship, Wang expressed the hope that China-Ukraine relations will develop normally and continue to benefit the two peoples, no matter how the international landscape changes.

Kuleba said that Ukraine is ready to maintain friendly contact with China and promote the further development of bilateral ties.

He expressed the hope that China can continue to play a unique and constructive role in peace promotion, and said that Ukraine is ready to strengthen ties with the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs.
