ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday announced that the party will consult its allies before filing an appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats.
Speaking at a press conference in Sialkot, Asif criticised the judiciary for overstepping its boundaries.
He emphasised that rewriting the Constitution is the prerogative of parliament, not the courts.
Asif stated that the Constitution was created and amended by parliament, and any future amendments will also be handled by the legislative body.
Asif questioned the Supreme Court’s ruling to grant relief to a petitioner who did not even approach the court.
The defence minister highlighted the importance of consulting allied parties before proceeding with the appeal.
A decision will be made in parliament on Monday regarding whether to challenge the ruling.
Asif also commented on the state of the judiciary, noting that Pakistan’s judiciary ranks 134th globally and lamented the lack of efforts to improve this standing.
