RAWALPINDI: Archbishop of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Dr Joseph Arshad has reaffirmed that the Christian community stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan’s armed forces and is ready to render every sacrifice for the defence, security and sovereignty of the motherland.
In his message issued on the occasion of Defence Day on Saturday, Archbishop Dr Arshad said September 6 was a historic day in the national history when Pakistan’s armed forces had courageously confronted a much larger enemy and foiled its designs through exemplary bravery and sacrifice.
He said the Defence Day served as a reminder of the supreme sacrifices rendered by the brave martyrs and Ghazis who demonstrated unmatched courage for safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
“The nation will always remember and honour the sacrifices of its martyrs with the greatest respect,” he said.
Archbishop Joseph Arshad said September 6 imparted an enduring message of national unity, solidarity, patriotism and a sense of responsibility.
He called upon the nation to renew its resolve to contribute to the country’s development, prosperity, peace and stability and to play its role with dedication and sincerity.
“Today, the entire nation stands firmly alongside its brave armed forces for the protection of Pakistan’s security and sovereignty,” he added.
The archbishop said the Christian community had historically played an important role in the defence of Pakistan and had rendered valuable services and sacrifices for the country.
“Pakistani Christians have always stood at the forefront whenever the defence of the homeland has been required. We reaffirm that our lives are also at the disposal of the country for its defence,” he said.
He said those who laid down their lives for Pakistan were national heroes whose sacrifices were a source of pride for the entire nation and would continue to inspire future generations.
Archbishop Joseph Arshad also offered prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs of Pakistan and for patience, strength and courage for their bereaved families.
