  • Chinese military delegation to arrive on August 26

ISLAMABAD – China’s Consular and foreign minister Wang Yi is likely to visit Pakistan next month to attend trilateral dialogue between China, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to diplomatic sources, Consular Wang Yi is likely to arrive Pakistan on September 6. It is likely that the Chinese dignitary would also attend the defence day celebrations of Pakistan.

Pakistan and China have already agreed to expand the scope of China, Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit reflects that some concrete deliberations are likely to take place.

It merits mention that Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit New Delhi in October which adds further impetus to Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Pakistan prior to Xi’s visit to India.

Diplomatic sources say that Consular Wang is likely to have meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other high ranking officials. The sources say that China and Pakistan would discuss expansion of scope of China, Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) while Afghanistan endgame and regional security situation with a specific reference with the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) would also come under discussion.

It merits mention that China played a key role in tabling a resolution on India’s annexation of Kashmir at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) which is being dubbed as diplomatic humiliation for India. Though Russia, US and UK also supported Kashmir issue but China played a key role in tabling the resolution.

Diplomatic sources also say that a high level military delegation from China is also arriving Pakistan on August 26 as the two strategic partners would evaluate the security situation in detail.

An official however told Pakistan Today that the visit of Consular Wang Yi is yet to be confirmed as the confirmation of Afghan delegation is yet to received.

“Due to Afghan election, uncertainty persists about the trilateral dialogue due to Presidential election in Afghan. However, things would be clear in next few days,” the diplomatic official concluded.
