Pakistan to host Saudi, Turkish and Egyptian FMs for crucial talks on Iran conflict

Date:

Islamabad: The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt are scheduled to visit Islamabad for high-level quadrilateral consultations focused on the ongoing war in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO), the four-nation meeting — involving Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar along with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt — is expected to take place on March 29-30, 2026. The talks will be chaired by FM Ishaq Dar.

The discussions aim to conduct in-depth deliberations on the rapidly evolving regional situation, explore diplomatic avenues to de-escalate tensions, and coordinate joint efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East

This upcoming meeting builds on recent diplomatic momentum. The four countries previously held a coordination meeting on the sidelines of a broader Arab-Islamic foreign ministers’ gathering in Riyadh earlier this month. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed the shift of the venue to Islamabad, noting that it was adjusted to accommodate Pakistan’s preference for hosting on its soil.

Pakistan has been playing a prominent role in back-channel diplomacy to facilitate indirect communication between Washington and Tehran. FM Ishaq Dar has publicly confirmed that Pakistan is relaying messages and proposals between the two sides, with support from Türkiye and Egypt. Islamabad has also offered to host direct US-Iran talks if both parties agree.

Analysts view the quadrilateral format as an important platform for the four influential Muslim-majority nations to align their positions on regional security, prevent further escalation, and push for a negotiated end to the conflict that has already caused significant instability, including disruptions to global oil markets.

The visit comes at a critical time as concerns grow over the humanitarian and economic fallout of the month-long war. Pakistan, along with its partners, continues to advocate for dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and restraint from all parties involved.

Further details regarding the exact agenda and level of participation are expected to be shared by the Foreign Office in the coming hours.
