ISLAMABAD – Amid fears and panic after the outbreak of novel Coronavirus, foreign nationals and students are boarding planes to get out of China. However, Dr Usman Janjua, a Pakistani faculty member at Changsha Medical University, has volunteered himself to join his Chinese friends to fight against deadly novel Coronavirus that has killed over 300 people and infected more than 14,000.

In a video message sent from Changsha to Pakistan Today, Dr Usman Janjua, 29, said that he has got himself registered as a volunteer with the Chinese authorities and was waiting for a decision by the higher authorities.

China was like second home for him and hence he wanted to serve his Chinese friends as a brother.

“Pakistan and China have always stood shoulder to shoulder in testing times. Today, we need to prove this fact. Doctors are trained to serve fellow human beings in critical situations. Hence, I have decided to stay back when everyone is flying out,” said the determined youth.

“I am a Pakistani and I want to keep my country’s flag flying high in this critical juncture. I want to be remembered as a human and a true comrade,” he added.

Dr Janjua also shared that as a doctor he feels that the Chinese government has taken “adequate and powerful” measures at the right time to tackle the virus.

He also expressed his confidence that China will soon be able to defeat the novel coronavirus. He added that soon Pakistani and citizens from other countries would find themselves safe.

Dr Usman said that he belonged to a middle-class family of Dina, District Jhelum. He said that the Chinese media has highlighted his offer to volunteer his services for fight against the epidemic. He said that the management of Changsha University, Chinese government and Foreign Experts Service Office of Science & Technology Department of Hunan Province had been offering great help to him and it was time to return the favour.
