{"id":3696,"date":"2026-10-22T08:41:54","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=3696"},"modified":"2026-10-22T08:41:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:41:54","slug":"lhc-summons-punjab-officials-over-plea-for-release-of-imrans-sisters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/10\/22\/lhc-summons-punjab-officials-over-plea-for-release-of-imrans-sisters\/","title":{"rendered":"LHC summons Punjab officials over plea for release of Imran\u2019s sisters"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"2038971\" class=\"story relative overflow-hidden single    bg-white font-georgia overflow-visible\" data-id=\"2038971\" data-layout=\"default\" data-tags=\"\">\n<div class=\"template__main  flow-root  px-1 w-full sm:w-2\/3 mx-auto md:min-w-183\">\n<div class=\"story__content  flow-root    pt-1 mt-1 text-4 sm:text-4.5  overflow-visible\" dir=\"auto\">\n<p><strong>LAHORE<\/strong>: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday summoned the Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat jail in connection with a petition seeking the release of former prime minister Imran Khan\u2019s three sisters.<\/p>\n<p>All three of Imran\u2019s sisters \u2014 Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan \u2014 were detained by authorities in September, under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, as the PTI geared up for a planned protest march towards Islamabad. Their detention was ordered for 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>A day earlier, Aleema\u2019s son, Shahrez Khan, filed a fresh plea challenging their detention. It stated that Imran\u2019s sisters remained at Lahore\u2019s Kot Lakhpat jail despite the lapse of the 30-day period of their detention.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Abher Gul Khan took up the petition on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar appeared on behalf of the petitioner and submitted that the detention orders of the three sisters had expired on Oct 19 and 20, but they had not been released.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Khan asked the counsel why he had not made the Lahore deputy commissioner a respondent in the petition.<\/p>\n<p>The counsel replied that the deputy commissioner had not been impleaded because the detention notification issued by the official had expired.<\/p>\n<p>Uzma\u2019s husband, Ahad Khan, also approached the rostrum and requested the court to summon the deputy commissioner. The judge, however, observed that the official could not be summoned as he had not been made a party to the petition.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing until Oct 28 and directed the home secretary and the jail superintendent to appear in person along with their reports on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday\u2019s petition, Shahrez contended that the detention period had expired, but the three sisters remained in custody. He asked the court to order their release.<\/p>\n<p>It was argued that their detention was a consequence of their efforts for their brother\u2019s release.
