{"id":3687,"date":"2026-10-22T08:39:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=3687"},"modified":"2026-10-22T08:39:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T08:39:47","slug":"pti-urges-govt-to-rebuild-trust-for-meaningful-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/10\/22\/pti-urges-govt-to-rebuild-trust-for-meaningful-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"PTI urges govt to rebuild trust for meaningful talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: The PTI on Wednesday called on the government to take confidence-building measures (CBMs) to pave the way for meaningful dialogue, demanding the reversal of what it described as \u201cunlawful\u201d measures, restoration of its provincial government\u2019s mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and release of political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, PTI Central Infor\u00admation Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said meaningful negotiations required concrete action rather than political statements. \u201cIf the government was genuinely serious about dialogue, it should take steps to build trust,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Akram demanded the reversal of measures the party considered unlawful, restoration of its provincial government\u2019s mandate and release of political prisoners whose continued detention, he said, could not be legally justified.<\/p>\n<p>He also called for the protection of PTI founder Imran Khan\u2019s constitutional and fundamental rights, including lawful meetings with his lawyers and family, fair and timely proceedings in his and his wife\u2019s cases, and medical treatment under the supervision of his personal physicians in accordance with applicable court orders.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Akram condemned raids on homes, detentions and pressure on elected representatives and party workers in Punjab and KP, alleging that these actions were intended to intimidate political opponents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PTI\u2019s \u2018popularity\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rejecting Information Minister Attaullah Tarar\u2019s remarks about the party\u2019s political standing, Mr Akram challenged all ruling coalition parties to contest elections against the PTI under a single banner. He said they would suffer a \u201ccrushing defeat in a free and fair contest, even today\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Mr Tarar had said a formal ban on the PTI was no longer needed after the imposition of governor\u2019s rule and an emergency in KP, arguing that the party had \u201clost po\u00ad\u00adw\u00ader\u201d in the province because of security and counterterrorism failures.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Akram said the government\u2019s use of \u201ccoercive measures and political pressure\u201d had failed to diminish the PTI\u2019s public support. He described the party as Pakistan\u2019s \u201cleading federal political force\u201d and its founder, Imran Khan, as the \u201conly leader enjoying widespread public support across the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting governor\u2019s rule and the emergency in KP, he described the measures as an \u201cattempt to undermine the province\u2019s electoral mandate\u201d.
