{"id":3519,"date":"2026-10-11T22:18:37","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T22:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=3519"},"modified":"2026-10-11T22:18:37","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T22:18:37","slug":"kundi-chairs-first-kp-advisory-council-meeting-says-fight-is-against-terrorism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/10\/11\/kundi-chairs-first-kp-advisory-council-meeting-says-fight-is-against-terrorism\/","title":{"rendered":"Kundi chairs first KP Advisory Council meeting, says fight is against terrorism"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"2036396\" class=\"story relative overflow-hidden single    bg-white font-georgia overflow-visible\" data-id=\"2036396\" data-layout=\"default\" data-tags=\"\">\n<div class=\"template__main  flow-root  px-1 w-full sm:w-2\/3 mx-auto md:min-w-183\">\n<div class=\"story__content  flow-root    pt-1 mt-1 text-4 sm:text-4.5  overflow-visible\" dir=\"auto\">\n<p><strong>PESHAWAR<\/strong>: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday chaired the first meeting of the KP Advisory Council, which was formed by the federal government following the imposition of an emergency and governor\u2019s rule in the province.<\/p>\n<p>At the outset of the meeting, all members of the council introduced themselves and their portfolios.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the meeting, Kundi congratulated the members of the council, while noting that they would have to face many challenges. He said that they would get a briefing on the portfolios they had been assigned and would get a few days to familiarise themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to fast-track things. There will be zero tolerance on corruption. Things should be done in a timely manner,\u201d he said, adding that they would have to demonstrate a clear difference from the work done by their predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the first order of business was the law and order situation, adding that there should be no hesitation in taking inspiration from the other provinces.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the current situation was an \u201copportunity\u201d as he called for building the province\u2019s soft image.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we have peace, we will get tourists and investors. My support is with you. I am available for you 24\/7,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kundi then went on to read out a message for the people of the province, in which he said that due to \u201cextraordinary circumstances\u201d, \u201cnecessary measures\u201d were taken under the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he would refrain from levelling allegations and political rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have one message: peace, protection and stability have to be brought back to KP,\u201d he said. He added that the people of KP had paid a huge price for the terrorism that plagued the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time has now come to give the people of the province, who have rendered these sacrifices, the right to peace. Our fight is against terrorism. Our fight is against the ideology and network which facilitates terrorism and weakens the implementation of the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that Pakhtuns were not a cause of terrorism, but were the \u201cbiggest victims\u201d. Therefore, the state had resolved that terrorism would be eliminated from KP and the people would be allowed to live their lives without fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first priority will be protecting the peace and the people. Right now, our biggest priority is taking effective steps against terrorism. For this, the capacity of the police and the Counter Terrorism Department will be increased,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that another objective would be to cater to the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMere statements are not the real test of a government, rather the service it provides to the people,\u201d he said. Kundi said that the council would focus on healthcare, education and employment.<\/p>\n<p>The last objective, he said, would be to eliminate the whole ecosystem giving rise to terrorism in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot solve the issue by just targeting terrorists. Those facilitating and financing \u2026 must be eliminated,\u201d he said, adding that those involved in terrorism would be dealt with according to the law.<\/p>\n<p>He assured the people of KP that the \u201cextraordinary steps\u201d taken were not meant to target a particular party or group. Kundi said that the main purpose was to ensure peace and security as he asked for their cooperation.<\/p>\n<h2>Security situation reviewed<\/h2>\n<p>Separately, Kundi chaired a high-level meeting regarding the security situation in the province, during which he was briefed in detail on the overall situation, counter-terrorism efforts and the current circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>According to a handout, it was decided during the meeting that all containers currently placed in Peshawar will be removed in phases \u201cas soon as possible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInternet services will be partially restored based on necessity,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>It was also decided during the meeting to enhance the compensation package for martyred police personnel and to review police salaries, as well as to pay \u201cspecial attention\u201d to the education and training of the heirs of martyred personnel.<\/p>\n<p>The governor commended the role of the administration and the police, remarking that it was a \u201cpositive development\u201d that no untoward incident had occurred amid the prevailing circumstances, the handout said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that eradicating terrorism was a \u201ctop priority\u201d and that the operational capacity of the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) would be further improved to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting was attended by Advisor on Home Affairs Kifayatullah Khan, Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Fakhr-e-Alam Irfan, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Amjad Ali Khan, Additional IG Special Branch Muhammad Kashif Alam, Additional IG CTD, CCPO Dr Mian Saeed, Joint Director General IB Arshad Ali Khan, and other relevant officials,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<div class=\"template__footer  flow-root  px-1\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1790766122205-0\" class=\"ad__wrapper__slot my-4 clear-both flex justify-center ad-rendered border-t border-b py-4 bg-gray-100 ad-floating-active\" data-rendered-classes=\"border-t border-b py-4 my-4 bg-gray-100\" data-name=\"Dawn-Responsive-Floating-MREC\" data-height=\"250px\" data-width=\"300px\" data-floating=\"true\" data-google-query-id=\"CPPuzPD-spcDFbJCKwMdrVw1vw\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"placeholder\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"container\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"decoy\"><\/div>\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"curtain\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday chaired the first meeting of the KP Advisory Council, which was formed by the federal government following the imposition of an emergency and governor\u2019s rule in the province.
