ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that there was a \u201csick conspiracy\u201d against the leaders of artificial intelligence (AI) companies, amid calls from industry leaders and international organisations to slow AI development due to \u201cunprecedented risks\u201d.<\/p>\n

The development came after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Saturday\u00a0called on\u00a0artificial intelligence (AI) firms to slow down the development of the powerful technology, amid mounting worries over the risks of \u201csuperintelligent\u201d computer systems; a view that OpenAI boss Sam Altman and xAI chief Elon Musk both agreed with.<\/p>\n

In a post on\u00a0Truth Social, he wrote, \u201cThe only control or \u2018guardrails\u2019 that AI needs is a strong and smart (high IQ!) president, and the USA has that, in spades!\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/figure>\n

Trump added that his administration has stopped AI industry figures \u201cfrom doing bad, or potentially bad \u2018things\u2019\u201c, and that it will continue to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe already have tremendous criminal and regulatory power over these companies!\u201d the US president added. \u201cThere is a sick conspiracy going on against AI and data centres, and the only one that is happy about it is China.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noting that \u201cwhoever wins AI, wins\u201d, Trump reiterated his claim that the US is leading the globe in AI development and will continue to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cConspiracy theorists, treasonists, traitors, and leakers, beware!\u201d the post concluded.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s spy chief warns of national security risks from AI<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The head of China\u2019s spy agency warned today that AI endangers the country\u2019s national security, with foreign powers potentially using the technology to threaten social order.<\/p>\n

\u201cHostile forces\u201d were abusing generative AI technologies to \u201cfabricate political rumours and spread harmful information\u201d, Minister of State Security Chen Yixin wrote in an article published online on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey launch public opinion wars and cognitive warfare against China, directly threatening our political security, institutional security and ideological security,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The warning came ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping\u2019s\u00a0visit\u00a0to Washington this month, where he is expected to meet Trump and discuss AI governance and safety, as calls mount for greater oversight of the technology.<\/p>\n

Chen warned that AI was now \u201cthe main battleground for global technological competition and a new track for major power strategic rivalry\u201d.<\/p>\n

He did not mention existential risks or putting the brakes on technological advances, but singled out Anthropic\u2019s Claude Mythos and OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT-5.5-Cyber for their advanced hacking capabilities that potentially \u201cpose serious risks to China\u2019s critical information infrastructure\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cForeign intelligence agencies are deeply using technologies such as intelligent web crawlers, intelligent data mining, and intelligent profiling analysis to extensively collect and acquire sensitive information such as key national data, trade secrets, and citizens\u2019 personal privacy,\u201d Chen said.<\/p>\n

The US-Iran war has also demonstrated AI\u2019s key role in the military, with better technology offering battlefield advantages, he said.<\/p>\n

China must \u201censure independent control of key core technologies\u201d \u2014 including the advanced computer chips vital to training AI models \u2014 to secure its technology sovereignty, Chen wrote.<\/p>\n

UN calls for \u2018urgent action\u2019 to rein in AI development<\/h2>\n

The United Nations rights chief called for countries and \u201cfrontier\u201d AI companies to act urgently to rein in a technology he warned posed \u201cunprecedented risks\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a letter sent to countries and AI developers and shared with the media, Volker Turk cautioned that the world was \u201con the cusp of irreversible change, affecting not just us but generations of humanity to come\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current race towards ever more powerful AI is a step change towards greater existential risks to every aspect of our lives,\u201d he wrote in the letter, sent at a time when worries over the risks of \u201csuperintelligent\u201d computer systems have been on full display.<\/p>\n

Superintelligence is the theoretical point when AI\u2019s capabilities exceed human intelligence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn today\u2019s world, we are almost entirely reliant on a small number of powerful companies to make the right choices on Al development for all of humanity,\u201d Turk lamented.<\/p>\n
