{"id":2619,"date":"2026-08-15T15:27:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T15:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=2619"},"modified":"2026-08-15T15:27:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T15:27:02","slug":"pm-shehbaz-directs-ndma-to-ensure-relief-for-flood-hit-citizens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/08\/15\/pm-shehbaz-directs-ndma-to-ensure-relief-for-flood-hit-citizens\/","title":{"rendered":"PM Shehbaz directs NDMA to ensure relief for flood-hit citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide every possible assistance and relief to people in flood-affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO), the prime minister gave the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister directed that \u201call available resources should be utilised to provide every possible assistance and relief to the people in flood-affected areas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He further instructed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with relevant provincial institutions and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1693559881661-0\" class=\"ad__wrapper__slot my-4 clear-both flex justify-center ad-rendered border-t border-b py-4 bg-gray-100\" data-rendered-classes=\"border-t border-b py-4 my-4 bg-gray-100\" data-name=\"Dawn-Responsive-Middle-Leaderboard\" data-height=\"90px\" data-width=\"728px\" data-selector=\".story__content p:nth-of-type(4)\" data-eager=\"true\" data-google-query-id=\"CM3CvdH4opYDFVTiDQkd7OMyaQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/1029551\/Dawn-Responsive-Middle-Leaderboard_0__container__\">The prime minister also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operation Centre.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the country\u2019s weather situation, particularly the flood situation in the wake of monsoon rains.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman also briefed the prime minister on relief activities in flood-affected areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of flood victims.<\/p>\n<p>With the cooperation of the federal government, NDMA relief operations in flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will continue, the statement quoted the chairman as saying.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0NDMA, 155 people have lost their lives and 460 have been injured in rain-related incidents from June 26 to August 14.<\/p>\n<p>Monsoon rains fall across the region from June to September, offering respite from the summer heat and are crucial to replenishing water supplies.<\/p>\n<p>However, heavy downpours also trigger deadly floods, landslides and displacement, particularly in vulnerable, poorly drained, or densely populated areas.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the Flood Forecasting Division of the Pakistan Meteorological Department\u00a0warned\u00a0of possible high flooding in storm-water nullahs linked to the Chenab and Ravi rivers from Aug 15 to 21 as flows in these waterways continue to rise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide every possible assistance and relief to people in flood-affected areas.
