{"id":2539,"date":"2026-08-09T20:31:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T20:31:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=2539"},"modified":"2026-08-09T20:31:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T20:31:32","slug":"pakistan-rejects-taliban-claims-of-weapons-smuggling-into-afghanistan-as-baseless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/08\/09\/pakistan-rejects-taliban-claims-of-weapons-smuggling-into-afghanistan-as-baseless\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan rejects Taliban claims of weapons smuggling into Afghanistan as &#8216;baseless&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday rubbished claims made by the Afghan Taliban about weapons allegedly smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan as \u201cfrivolous\u201d and \u201cbaseless\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement shared on X, the ministry said, \u201cThe Afghan Taliban regime\u2019s\u00a0claim that weapons are being smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan for so-called \u2018subversive activities\u2019 is frivolous, baseless and contrary to established facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It noted that Afghanistan was already awash with \u201cenormous quantities of sophisticated weapons and military equipment abandoned after the withdrawal of US and coalition forces (worth an estimated $7.2 billion), in addition to large stocks of Soviet-era weaponry accumulated over decades of conflict\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttempts to manufacture a Pakistani connection to such weapons seem designed to divert international attention from the far more serious and documented concern[s]: terrorist groups continue to find space, facilitation and operational freedom on Afghan soil to plan, support and execute attacks inside Pakistan,\u201d the ministry stated.<\/p>\n<p>It added that rather than resorting to \u201cimplausible accusations and blame-shifting\u201d, the Afghan Taliban must address the \u201cpresence of terrorist sanctuaries on their territory and fulfil their repeated commitments that Afghan soil will not be allowed to be used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan has been continuously\u00a0pushing the Afghan Taliban regime to rein in the terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan and prevent the violent groups from carrying out terror activities against Pakistan from its soil. Officials say those appeals have gone unheeded.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, following\u00a0multiple major attacks\u00a0in Balochistan, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had asserted that terrorism originating from across the border would be crushed with the \u201cfull might of the state\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2025, Pakistan\u00a0warned\u00a0at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that the acquisition of\u00a0abandoned weapons\u00a0by terrorist groups based in Afghanistan not only threatens peace and security in Pakistan but also in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday rubbished claims made by the Afghan Taliban about weapons allegedly smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan as \u201cfrivolous\u201d and \u201cbaseless\u201d.
