ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claimed on Friday that certain elements within the ruling PML-N were undermining Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and sowing discord between him and his political allies.<\/p>\n

The PPP and the PML-N have been engaged in a\u00a0war of words\u00a0since the latter\u00a0emerged in the lead\u00a0in\u00a0Mirpur polls\u00a0on July 27. The PML-N has also\u00a0won\u00a0the majority of the seats in the\u00a0second phase, with the PPP accusing it of rigging and other violent tactics in both phases.<\/p>\n

The PPP chief was addressing an election rally in Azad Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Poonch district, where the third phase of elections in the region is slated to be held.<\/p>\n

\u201cHigh-profile people are saying that the government has collapsed. I\u2019m not saying that, nor am I casting doubt on the prime minister\u2019s intentions. He\u2019s a good man with good intentions. But what can he do when the people around him have bad intentions?\u201d Bilawal asked.<\/p>\n

In reference to\u00a0remarks\u00a0he made earlier this week, the party chief highlighted that the PPP did not start the \u201ccountdown\u201d to the government\u2019s collapse, but rather these elements within the ruling party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PML-N\u2019s fight is not with the PPP \u2014 it happens in elections, as it has before. The real fight is entirely different, because the PM, with his good intentions and actions, is undermined by a large part of the PML-N,\u201d Bilawal alleged.<\/p>\n

\u201cA big part of the PML-N wants the PM to fight not only the opposition, but also his own allies.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then asked the audience: \u201cHave there ever been elections held in six phases in Kashmir\u2019s history? If Kashmir is one, then the election should have been held on a single day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bilawal said the elections were being held in phases \u201cso that there is calm and the elections are peaceful, free and fair\u201d, before asking: \u201cBut in which phase were the elections free, fair or peaceful?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn truth, elections were carried out in phases so they could rig them. They knew that 10 seats were in their pocket from the start,\u201d he alleged.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the 10 seats in their pocket, they robbed Mirpur, they robbed Muzaffarabad, and they\u2019re looking at you, in Poonch. They are looking at Bagh. On August 10, they will find out that those in Poonch and Bagh hunt tigers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elections are being held across AJK in\u00a0three phases. Polls in\u00a0Mirpur\u00a0and\u00a0Muzaffarabad\u00a0divisions were held on July 27 and August 2, respectively.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0first phase\u00a0of polling in Mirpur saw the PML-N secure nine of the 13 seats while the PPP won the remaining four.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0second phase\u00a0in Muzaffarabad, the PML-N bagged 15 more seats, while the PPP managed to add just six more to its tally.<\/p>\n

The third phase in Poonch division was set for August 10. Poonch Division comprises 11 constituencies \u2014 three in Bagh, one in Haveli, five in Poonch and two in Sudhnoti district.<\/p>\n

However, earlier today, the AJK Election Commission\u00a0revised\u00a0the schedule for the third phase of elections in the region, saying polling would only be held in Poonch Division\u2019s Bagh and Haveli districts on August 10 amid concerns over the law and order situation.<\/p>\n

The electoral process in the constituencies of Poonch district and Sudhnoti\u2019s Pallandri would not be held on August 10, the Election Commission said, adding that it reviewed the \u201ccurrent situation\u201d regarding the scheduled elections in Poonch.<\/p>\n

It noted that according to a report it received from the AJK home secretary, there were \u201cconcerns over the law and order situation in some areas of Poonch district and Pallandri district\u201d.<\/p>\n

The commission\u2019s decision comes in the wake of\u00a0clashes\u00a0that took place between protesters and law enforcement personnel in Poonch district\u2019s Rawalakot on July 27, which\u00a0reportedly\u00a0resulted in several casualties.<\/p>\n

Rawalakot has been gripped by unrest since\u00a0early June, with the\u00a0proscribed\u00a0Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) staging\u00a0sit-ins\u00a0periodically.<\/p>\n

The JAAC, which has been demanding the abolishment of 12 seats in the local legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-held Kashmir, has been holding protests in the region for several weeks now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
