{"id":2325,"date":"2026-07-22T18:34:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T18:34:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=2325"},"modified":"2026-07-22T19:08:36","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T19:08:36","slug":"govt-raises-petrol-by-rs6-39-diesel-by-rs7-83-per-litre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/07\/22\/govt-raises-petrol-by-rs6-39-diesel-by-rs7-83-per-litre\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt raises petrol by Rs6.39, diesel by Rs7.83 per litre"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"story__content flow-root text-4 sm:text-4.5 overflow-visible pt-1 mt-1\" dir=\"auto\">\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: The government on Wednesday increased the price of petrol by Rs6.39 and that of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs7.83 per litre to pass on the impact of fluctuating global prices following renewed regional hostilities in the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>Following the changes, the price of petrol stands at Rs327.12 per litre and that of HSD at Rs375.04.<\/p>\n<p>The Petroleum Division\u2019s notification said the new prices would be applicable on July 23 (Thursday).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media w-full sm:w-full media--center media--uneven media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/07\/22231617ad0b82e.webp\"><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier today, the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPPOA)\u00a0deferred\u00a0its nationwide strike call for two weeks after negotiations with the petroleum minister.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1693559881661-0\" class=\"ad__wrapper__slot my-4 clear-both flex justify-center\" data-rendered-classes=\"border-t border-b py-4 my-4 bg-gray-100\" data-name=\"Dawn-Responsive-Middle-Leaderboard\" data-height=\"90px\" data-width=\"728px\" data-selector=\".story__content p:nth-of-type(4)\" data-eager=\"true\"><\/div>\n<p>A day earlier, the association announced a nationwide strike after negotiations with the government over\u00a0daily petroleum pricing\u00a0failed.<\/p>\n<p>The diesel price has come down from a\u00a0peak of Rs520.35\u00a0recorded on April 3. Its price had started rising from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran war broke out on February 28.<\/p>\n<p>The petrol price had\u00a0peaked at Rs458.41\u00a0on April 3 after beginning its\u00a0upward trajectory\u00a0from Rs266 in the first week of March.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik\u00a0announced\u00a0that fuel prices would now be fixed on a daily basis due to fluctuations in international market prices following renewed hostilities between Iran and the US.<\/p>\n<p>The government had been announcing\u00a0weekly revisions\u00a0to fuel prices since early March, alongside measures for the conservation of fuel amid possible oil supply disruptions due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The federal government in April also\u00a0announced\u00a0targeted relief measures to provide subsidised fuel.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1783585102389-0\" class=\"ad__wrapper__slot my-4 clear-both flex justify-center\" data-rendered-classes=\"border-t border-b py-4 my-4 bg-gray-100\" data-name=\"Dawn-Responsive-1-Article\" data-height=\"250px\" data-width=\"300px\" data-selector=\".story__content p:nth-of-type(9)\"><\/div>\n<p>The petroleum minister stated that the cabinet and the prime minister had decided to give the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) the responsibility of deciding fuel prices on a daily basis based on international market trends.<\/p>\n<p>The daily pricing decision was rejected by the All Pakistan Dealers Association, which said it would consider a protest plan this week.<\/p>\n<p>Petrol is mainly used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws and two-wheelers, and changes in its price affect the middle and lower-middle classes.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, changes in diesel prices also impact the public at large, as it is mainly used in the heavy transport sector, power plants and large generators.<\/p>\n<p>Petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) are the major revenue earners, with monthly sales of about 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes, compared to just 10,000 tonnes of monthly demand for kerosene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday increased the price of petrol by Rs6.39 and that of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs7.83 per litre to pass on the impact of fluctuating global prices following renewed regional hostilities in the Persian Gulf.
