{"id":211,"date":"2026-03-28T14:30:33","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T14:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/?p=211"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:52:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:52:35","slug":"211","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomag.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/28\/211\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump signature to appear on US currency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD<\/strong>: US paper currency will bear \u200cPresident Donald Trump\u2019s signature starting this summer, the first time a sitting president has signed American money, the Treasury Department said on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The redesigned notes, planned to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, will also, for the first time in 165 years, drop the signature of the \u200bUS treasurer, who reports to the Treasury Secretary and oversees the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the US \u200bMint and other Treasury functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first $100 bills with Trump\u2019s signature and that of US Treasury Secretary \u2060Scott Bessent will be printed in June, followed by other bills in subsequent months. The new bills may take several \u200bweeks to circulate through banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Treasury is still producing notes bearing the signatures of former president Joe Biden\u2019s Treasury secretary, Janet \u200bYellen, and former Treasurer Lynn Malerba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malerba will be the last of an unbroken line of treasurers whose signatures have appeared on US federal currency since 1861, when the US government first issued it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The signature change is the latest effort by the Trump administration and its allies to put the \u200bpresident\u2019s name on buildings, institutions, government programs, warships and coins. A federal arts panel, whose members Trump appointed, approved last \u200bweek the design for a commemorative gold coin with Trump\u2019s image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bessent said in a statement that the move was appropriate for the US 250th \u200canniversary, given \u2060strong US economic growth and financial stability during Trump\u2019s second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no more powerful way to recognise the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than US dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial,\u201d Bessent said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An effort to circulate a $1 Trump coin was set back by \u200blaws prohibiting the depiction of \u200bliving individuals on US coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u2060statute governing the printing of Federal Reserve notes gives the Treasury broad discretion to change designs to guard against counterfeiting. The law requires keeping certain elements, including the words \u201cIn God We \u200bTrust,\u201d and only allows portraits of deceased individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall designs of bills will not change, \u200bexcept for Trump\u2019s \u2060signature replacing the Treasurer\u2019s, Treasury officials said. A mock-up of the $100 bill with Trump\u2019s signature was not immediately available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malerba, the former treasurer, declined to comment on the Trump administration\u2019s move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her predecessor, Jovita Carranza, who served as treasurer in Trump\u2019s first term, called the change \u201ca powerful \u2060symbol of \u200bAmerican resilience, the enduring strength of free enterprise and the promise of \u200bcontinued greatness\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current treasurer, Brandon Beach, whose name has not appeared on the currency, also issued a supportive statement, saying Trump was the architect of a \u201cgolden \u200bage economic revival\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: US paper currency will bear \u200cPresident Donald Trump\u2019s signature starting this summer, the first time a sitting president has signed American money, the Treasury Department said on Thursday.
