BEIJING<\/strong>: President Xi Jinping hailed China’s “unbreakable” \u200cfriendship with Pakistan on Monday as he met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing, seeking to deepen their “all-weather” partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xi welcomed the Pakistani leader as an “old friend” at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the two \u200bcountries had “understood, trusted and supported each other” over decades, adding, “No matter how the international situation changes, China always prioritises the development of China-Pakistan relations in its neighbourhood diplomacy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other senior officials were present on the Pakistani side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan and China are “proudly celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations,” paying tribute to the founding fathers of both nations for laying the foundation of their enduring partnership, according to Pakistan TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reaffirming the “iron-brother” relationship, he added both countries remain committed to taking bilateral ties “from strength to strength” through year-long celebrations and deeper strategic cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his address, President Xi extended warm greetings to the people of Pakistan while welcoming PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir to China. He praised Pakistan’s constructive role and peace efforts in the region, saying the two countries had for 75 years stood together with mutual trust, unwavering support, and an unbreakable traditional friendship that continues to strengthen strategic cooperation and shared development, according to Pakistan TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan had played a \u201cvery sincere role\u201d in efforts to mediate between the US and Iran, as he held high-level talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing focused on regional stability, bilateral cooperation and deepening strategic ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting at the Great Hall of the People, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding shared interests and promoting peace amid rising tensions in the Gulf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister is in China on a four-day visit from May 23-26. The visit is expected to highlight a new chapter in the 75-year-old China-Pakistan relationship, which has long been recognised for mutual trust and enduring cooperation despite changing international circumstances, according to a commentary published on China’s CGTN website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the ongoing regional crisis, the prime minister said the world was passing through \u201ca very critical moment\u201d and stressed the need for collective efforts to restore stability. \u201cWe have to really be together so that the world at large is at peace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Shehbaz noted that Pakistan had remained actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation between the US and Iran. He said Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had just returned from Tehran after consultations with Iranian officials and travelled overnight to attend the Beijing engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister added that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had also been in contact with relevant regional stakeholders to support peace efforts. \u201cWe pray to Allah Almighty that peace will be restored. A lot of ground has been covered, and things are moving in the right direction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He warned that the crisis had impacted both regional and global economies, particularly oil-importing countries such as Pakistan. \u201cPakistan, being a net importer of oil and petroleum products, has also felt the economic impact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calling the visit \u201calways a great pleasure\u201d, the prime minister thanked the Chinese leadership for its warm hospitality. \u201cDear brother and friend, thank you very much for the very warm invitation to visit China,\u201d he said. \u201cEach time we come, we see new changes and major developments.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
